This album is one I've been listening to ever since I was about 6 years old (I had it on vinyl back then), and I must confess that I still listen to it today even as an adult. The hightlights include Bert & Ernie singing a great duet on "One & One Makes Two", Bird Bird singing "Just One Me", and The Count singing "8 Beautiful Notes" which is a really catchy tune! You also hear Sesame Street construction man "Biff" (of Biff & Sully fame) singing "Five Fingers". One of Biff's rare musical performances. And..... Little Jerry & the Montones singing "FOUR!". This group sounds just like one of those old time Doo Wop Groups and they always sing great Rock'n' Roll Sesame Street Songs! You gotta get this CD, for your kids, or for yourself. To bring back your Sesame Street Memories!

"One Weird Song!" 2008-05-04

I like all the songs on this CD, except for one. "I Wan't to Hold Your Ear" is the exception. It's sung by Bert in the style of a Cole Porter love ballad, but the words are creepy. It makes Bert seem like a serial killer, as he describes taking apart his loved one and holding various body parts. What were they thinking when they let this song get on the CD? When I hear my son singing it in the back seat, it creeps me out.

I bought this CD basically just to have "Letter B", one of my favorites from childhood. Unfortunately, the version on the CD is not the version from the show with the muppet Beetles singing the song. I don't know where the CD version comes from, but it is horrible - barely even follows the Let It Be melody. Likewise other songs on the album, which seem to be take-offs only in title. Very disappointed.

UPDATE 11/11/09

I am updating my review to four stars because I know realize that the problems I first posted about have more to do with my memory than the CD. The version of Letter B on the CD is how it ran on Sesame Street. Somewhere, over the last 2-3 decades, my memories of the songs had shifted. I prefer my memories to reality, but I'm not going to hold that against Sesame Street. This doesn't portend well for my next three decades...

This a fun CD, even for adults. I love kids music that isn't TOO much like kid's music such as other obnoxouis purple characters. This CD is funny and great bc the songs are based off popular songs of the 60s, 70, 80s and even 90s. (Rebel L? That's hilarious!!) My son is only 10 mos old and loves it. This is our "in the car" CD!

This one took some getting used to. Most of the songs are takeoff of an original famous song or genre. None follows the original music exactly and at first I found this quite disconcerting. The words were funny, but I kept expecting the original tune. I still feel this way about some. "Hey Food" doesn't work because "Hey Jude" is one of the great songs of all time and it's annoying to hear an inferior takeoff. "Let It Be" is less great but still better than "Letter 'B'". But some of the takeoffs are masterpieces in their own rights. Forgive me, but I almost like "Rebel 'L'" better than the original, which I adore. And the genre parodies (Spector-ish girl groups, a generic Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley song etc ) are easier to enjoy. I'm glad I persisted.

I just loved this album as kid playing it tons of times and going through several siblings too. I'm an uncle now and wanted to see if it was available on any format it looks as if it was. But only by namesake ( The Title I Mean). So I was a little disappointed as many were that had this album when we were younger. I still have cassette, but would like get an upgrade of some sort sometime. Whoever own the rights now needs to get clue and return this title to it's classic run order like it was in the 70's and 80's like as is:

This was a classic and was fun for kids to listen to, all these other songs now don't fit in my mind what this title was once a kids delight at one point. Now not so much songs thrown together like mess and not in a good way. Whoever Own The Rights,Please Leave CTW (Sesame Street) Classic Albums as is, don't change the order of the songs or omit classic ones , when you reissue them please! They were in a perfect song order when they were released the first time in the 70's and 80's. They Don't need to be messed with, just a little remastering to make them sounded nicer ok. I'll be waiting to buy the real title when you release it. until then i'll have to copy my old cassette into some sort of mp3 file to listen to for future listening although i was hoping to buy a CD of this title too bad.

We purchased this CD for our son's first birthday. He LOVES it! He has to go to sleep every night with this CD playing in the background, and even wants to play with and carry around the CD case! We are big "Cookie Monster" fans at this house and were excited to see that there was even something like this available. And I swear that I remember some of the songs from when I was little! This album is great, but it's not the same as the one I had as a child, which was also called C is for Cookie, but had different tracks! The cover was the same, I think. It had Casey McPhee and C is for Cookie and Bakes a Cake and Circles, like this newer one, but I don't remember any of the others being on it. It also had a song called "Cookie Monster's 3 Wishes", with a genie in the toothpaste tube.

So as great as it is to find Casey, and as much as my toddler will love this one, personally, I'd love to hear if the older version was still available anywhere... hdunham@sympatico.ca.

In the 1970's I had several albums and 8-tracks of Sesame Street songs, but I always loved the alphabet one best. Each letter with its own song and I remembered the skits for each on the television show as well. It was a truly nostalgic experience to hear all of the old songs again and how well they describe each letter. I look forward to playing this for my son once he is old enough.

One thing though - the classic joke is gone since it's no longer on an album. At the end of the album, Big Bird says he does not know what the alphabet is, so one of the characters (I think Bert, maybe?) says to the listeners "Turn the record over" and Big Bird's response is "If we turn the record over, won't we all fall off?"....

I am now 32, and I listened to this as a kid (repeatedly). We lived in a pretty isolated area and had no TV, etc. This (record back then) was my best friend. I still know every word by heart, and in retrospect, I believe it helped me to do really well with reading and writing throughout my school years. (They have added a new cover and a song sung by Elmo at the beginning). I think it helps kids learn to really like/develop a relationship with letters. Maybe that is going too far, but it is fun anyway and helps them learn all the sounds the letters make (phonics), which is all-important for learning to read. Also, it fosters the imagination because it is all audio. Kids have to imagine what the characters look like. I purchased two of these for my 4-year-old because I noticed the manufacturer stopped making them. Of course, with cable TV, video games, CDs, DVDs, etc., he is not quite as impressed as I was, but I still enjoy listening to it with him when I can, and he does like the CD. :-) He also started understanding letter sounds after listening to it a few times.

I bought The Bird is the Word to add to the playlist that my two Macaws listen to during the day. They seem to like music, and music that's lively and with cute voices appear to entertain them. (And I like it too!) The songs "Just One Me" and "Wonderful Me" are especially cute. What great songs these would be for a little kid, to develop a positive self image. And "Good Morning Mr. Sun" is just too cute. I put it at the top of our playlist here, right after "Morning Has Broken" which is on the Rock-A-Bye Veggie album. "Bird is the Word" actually gets the birds dancing on their perches, especially if I sing along.

This music is entertaining for adults and kids alike and if you like Sesame Street, it's one to add to your collection.

These songs are, like the best of Sesame Street, funny for kids and fun for adults too. There are a variety of musical styles, from Polka ("Transylvania Polka") to Andrews-sisters Boogie ("Boogie Woogie Piggies") to Waltz ("Batty Bat"). My 4 year old loves hearing "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea" sung by a harried Grover, and he also loves the bird sounds on "This Song is for the Birds" - sung with an East Coast accent. My 6 and 9 year olds still enjoy "Captain Vegetable" which is in the style of an old-time TV show about superheroes. I think my favorite is "Monster in the Mirror", which has a bass line that reminds me of the Munsters, and talks about how kids shouldn't be afraid of seeing their reflection in the mirror.

This is just a great CD. My daughter checks it out at the library over and over again for her 2 year old daughter, who absolutely loves it. All the tracks are fun and the "Are we there yet" track is too funny. I'm purchasing the CD for our next long distance car trip with my grandson and I can't wait to play the "Are we there yet" track the first time he asks "are we there yet?" and each time after that he asks. It's going to be a hilarious trip!

I bought this cd after reading several good reviews. While my daughter loves the cd (she sometimes wants track 4 over and over and over again), I am only rating this with 4 stars. This is because I find the songs with the Count to be a little annoying (there are 3 different tracks, but it's the same song). Also, the "Are we there yet?" song is annoying too, as Elmo's voice is whiny and screeching. Not something I'd want to listen to on a long car ride. Other than those grievances of mine, the cd is fun and my daughter loves it. It is played in our car often.

This is a delightful cd. All the songs are catchy and upbeat. My four and three year old sing the songs throughout the day after listening to it. It will help the time pass when traveling or provide great dancing music when at home. I highly recommend this cd. Enjoy it - we do.

My 2 1/2 yr old daughter watches the video of this all the time, so I wanted something we could listen to in the car that would help keep her entertained. Not only does she love listening to this in the car, but she also dances to it at home. (Once we danced ALL the songs together in a row and she still wanted "more, more!" Talk about a work out!) I grew up on Sesame Street and to this day love the music - or so I thought until I bought this CD for my 8 month old son. This collection of songs is definitely no where near the best Sesame Street has to offer. Most of the songs of sickly sweet and hard to listen to. Neither my son nor I enjoy this CD, and it's terribly disappointing because I really think the world of Sesame Street. I intend to buy another from the Sesame Street collection, but this time a CD with songs I recognize the names of.

I bought this for my 18 month old son who loves sesame street but he was not to thrilled with it...maybe when he is alittle older. I don't think this will help him to fall asleep, it does not seem soothing/relaxing enough. Kermits songs are the best for relaxing child for bed, or ernies. The others voices are annoying to be honest, never relized it until I bought the cd. I'll proably sell it on ebay and try to get some money back out of it. I would not miss this one for the cd collection.

I read the reviews before I bought cd and even listed to the sample songs....Just was not what I exspected once I listen to the entire cd.

My parents bought this tape for my little brothers when teye were 2 or 3 and we used to listen to it all the time in the car. It was really great for them! Just a couple weeks ago I found myself driving in the car and I found this tape and pulled it out and started singing along, and I'm 18! The music is fun, the lyrics are sweet, and I think it's my favorite kids' album ever! Even though its 'sleepy time' songs, they're not all slow, many are upbeat and the whole tape (or CD) is really just great.

The CD is so sweet and NOT annoying which so many baby CDs are. The first two songs are a bit more upbeat then a standard bedtime CD, but the rest is so mellow and loving. It's not quite as soothing as most lullaby CDs, but keep in mind, the songs are song by the Sesame Street characters. That said, hearing Snuffy or Kermit sing is somehow so relaxing. I don't know if it brings back good childhood memories for me, or what, but it just feels like someone giving me a great big bear hug.

In general, I'd say the disc is better for winding down the kids then absolute bedtime music. But my 9 week old seems to love it anyway. She even falls asleep to the very loud and upbeat Sesame Street Platinum CD. I guess it's just feel good music regardless of the tempo.

As a diehard Muppet fan, I've found that (until recently) Muppet music is extremely hard to come by, so I acquired most of the Sesame Street catalogue. This one, by far, has to be one of my favorites. The Count always got these wonderful songs that were educational and evoked Old World charm. It was hard to believe that he was almost shelved because the writers of "Sesame Street" initially disliked his character. However, the incredible Jerry Nelson made the character work and it shows here. Highlights include "The Song Of The Count" (I could imagine Jerry having a phenomenal time in that recording session), "The First Day Of School", "One Potato", "Count Up To Nine", and the hilarious "My Fair Lady" send-up, "I Could Have Counted All Night", with a rare "Sesame Street" appearance by "Muppet Show" regular Louise Gold. All in all, it adds up to von, von terrific Sesame Street CD! Ah ha ha ha ha, I love it! *thunder and lightning*

I disagree with the last review. I think it is wrong to enjoy music without paying for it. If you teach special education preschool or have preschool children, these songs just can't be surpassed for teaching counting and beginning addition. My kids especially love the Octopus Blues which is a counting song.

The videos for many of the songs on this CD are easily found on Youtube so unless your kids (or you) find some songs you really love you're probably better off passing on the CD. The title track is really the only one that is particularly catchy. The Cookie Monster song is almost creepy.

Interestingly, the LP version has a few "Beetles" songs like "Letter B" and "Hey, Food" which didn't make the CD.

"A Celebration of Me, Grover!", what an apt title for this excellent album, it truly is a celebration in it's purest and most joyous form. It is so rare that a piece of music can so move and inspire me. After listening to it I was (and remain, to some extent) absolutely and completely blown away. Before I analyze the album, let me provide a bit of history and context for this release and artist. "A Celebration..." is a comeback album of sorts for Grover, who's last release was the critically acclaimed 1974 classic "Grover Sings the Blues"(which, by the way, is long overdue for a CD release). That legendary recording catapulted Grover to the top of the music industry. Robert Johnson is often credited for inventing the blues form as we know it, but Grover has the distinction of re-inventing it. "Sings the Blues" was a spectacular release on many levels, it contains many elements of psychedelic music, which was reportedly inspired by Grover's heavy use of LSD at the time, as well as his close friendship with Bob Dylan(who penned two tracks on that album). It should be noted, that the influence went both ways, as Grover provided major inspiration for Dylan on his 75 release "Blood on the Tracks", Grover also played lead guitar on that record. But, at it's core "Sings the Blues" was a record in the blues tradition, Grover's searing blues guitar and emotionally raw growl(a major influence on Tom Waits, whose new experimental leanings were inspired, by Grover, a bit of a mentor for the rocker) opened the door for countless later blues artists, such as Stevie Ray Vaughan. After the release and subsequent fanfare of his debut album Grover, in the tradition of JD Salinger, left the public eye at the height of his creative powers, and lived the life of a recluse at his Oregon ranch, only occasionally returning to television.

Then, for a long time, nothing of note happened in the music industry, Grover surfaced only once, to produce and pen a few songs on the highly influential 1978 album "At Home" by his longtime friends, Bert and Ernie. The album, though praised by critics was a commercial failure, due to it's overtly homosexual subject matter, and uncomprimising depiction of drug use and AIDs in the gay community. In subsequent years the album has gained it's rightful status as one of the finest records of the period, and a major inspiration on the punk and glam scene of the 80s.

Fast-foward to 2004, the music industry has become an over-commercialized version of it's former self. Vacuous pop and R&B albums top the charts, nothing of substantial artistic merit was even being considered by most musicians. Then, in early 2003 rumours began circulating regarding Grover's eagerly anticipated return to the music industry. Naysayers argued that times had changed, and Grover's new release would be dated and insubstantial. Well, as time has proved they were gravely mistaken.

"A Celebration of Me", a sprawling 2 disc concept album, that is, in effect, an autobiography of The Blue One, it encompases Grover's terrible childhood, suffering sexual and physical abuse at the hands of his sunday school teacher. His coming of age, and discovery of his own sexuality, his rise to fame, and his heroin addiction in the early 80s. This is a more mature Grover than the young upstart that recorded "Sings the Blues", this is a sombre and wise Grover, some of his youthful exuberance is gone, but it is replaced by sagelike wisdom of a man who's content with his place in the world. "A Celebration" is, as I've mentioned, a dark and harrowing album, but after listening to it the message is one of hope and redemption, of battling one's personal demons, and coming out on top. The explosive guitar work evident on "Sings the Blues" is much more restrained here, and Grover even gets behind the piano for a few tender ballads. In summation, this is simply one of the finest records ever produced, and will no doubt go down in history among "Revolver", "Blonde on Blonde", and "Exile on Main Street" as a true artistic statement and a powerful listening experience. Buy it, love it.

I am eighteen, and I, my thirteen-year-old brother and my seven-year-old sister all LOVE this cd. I've even caught our mom singing along!

This cd is a great opportunity to introduce kids to a broad range of artists... Jimmy Buffet, Celine Dion, Kenny Loggins, Steven Tyler, even Rosie O'Donnell. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, you won't get sick of this album after fifteen rounds of "play it again!" It's not Elmo-heavy, but he is on several tracks, similarly to the video.

This album is DEFINITELY worth the investment-- your kids will listen to it for years.
